The service will take place at 10.45am and guests and the public should assemble at The Cenotaph, near to the park’s Leamington Road entrance, from 10.30am.Īlso, very important in Coventry’s Civic Remembrance Day calendar is the annual Communal Grave Service at London Road Cemetery which takes place at 3pm. “As the numbers of people attending each year illustrates, we know how much the service in the War Memorial Park means to our residents and I’m sure this year’s’ service will be as well-attended as ever and we come together to mark the day.” “This service is always very important to the city and acts as a timely reminder for everyone as to why we continue to promote peace and reconciliation around the world. The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Kevin Maton, who will take the salute said, “The city’s annual Remembrance Day Service and Parade helps us remember, honour, and pay our respects to all those who have lost their lives due to wars or armed conflict.” Included on the day will be a reading delivered by Pastor Eniiwaju Etomi, the Senior Pastor at Holy Ghost Zone Parish in Hillfields, and prayers will be led by The Reverend Tony Janew Deacon, Christ the King, based in Coundon. The Exhortation, famous words associated with Remembrance events, and the reading of Kohima, will both be recited on the day by ex-serviceman Mr Ralph Wooldridge TD, who lives in the city. The event features a parade, hymns, readings, a two-minute silence and prayers, followed by the laying of wreaths by representatives of the Armed Forces, emergency services, civic representatives, and many other groups in memory of the fallen. Here at CAFOD we hold all our supporters, volunteers, staff, and those we have worked alongside overseas who have died in our prayers. The parade begins at Spencer Park and makes its way to the War Memorial Park, through the ceremonial gates, to the Cenotaph where a service will be led by The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, the Lord Bishop of Coventry.Īs in previous years, members of the public are invited to attend the service and join civic guests to mark this important date in the city’s events diary.
